A good friend of mine picked this up as a gift for me when he was in London at Comet Miniatures a few years ago. The kit came bagged in a Ziploc baggie, without any instructions or manufacturers markings.

This kit is definitely a recast, but not of another model kit. It pretty much looks like it was cast straight from the Imperial Probe Droid toy that was included in the Hoth Turret and Droid playset that was released by Kenner in 1980 as part of “The Empire Strikes Back” toy line. According to the Star Wars Model Gallery, that’s apparently what was done, except that this model doesn’t “explode” like the Kenner toy did.

The kit is molded in buttery beige resin, and has a little flash that will need to be cleaned up. There are a total of seven parts – upper and lower main hull, and five legs. No stand was included with the kit. One leg is broken and will need to be mended.

The kit looks like it will be about 5 inches high when it is completed.
