The B’rel/K’Vort Class Scout Ship made its first appearance in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, when it destroyed the Oberth Class ship USS Grissom in orbit around the Genesis Planet.

It was not until 1994 that the modeling community received an injection-molded version of this particular ship. Subsequent reissues included 1995 (Star Trek: Generations) and 1997 (PlusPack and Flight Display versions). The kit was reissued again 2005 by Racing Champions, even though the box carried the AMT/Ertl logo.

The kit is molded in AMT/Ertl’s standard light gray styrene and has 36 parts, including clear parts for the impulse engine and the photon torpedo launcher in the bow. An extremely basic decal sheet with four decals was also included.

One nice feature of the kit is that the wings can be displayed in one of two modes – wings up for Cruise Mode, or wings angled downward for Attack Mode. Unfortunately the builder must pick one mode or the other, as the kit does not provide for movable wing baffles to allow for switching between the two modes.

The kit is available through secondary sources such as eBay, and it has been offered on Federation Models for about $35.00, although it is listed as “out of stock” at the time of this writing.
