When the Battlestar Galactica television series began in October 2004, the Galactica gathered the remains of Human civilization and let the exodus from the Colonies. It was believed that the Galactica herself was the sole survivor of the Colonial Fleet battlestars. Then, in September 2005, the episode “Pegasus” revealed that there was another surviving Battlestar – the Pegasus (BSG 62).

Moebius’ new Pegasus kit joins the Galactica in 1:4105 scale. Now fans of the show can have the Bucket and the Beast in the same scale. The kit box measures 10.5 x 14 x 3, and it’s jam-packed.

The kit’s parts are cleanly molded in light gray styrene, and there are a bunch of them. A sprue of clear parts is also included for the aft end of the engines. The instruction sheet provides an option for idling thrusters (yellow) or firing thrusters (blue). The choice is up to the builder.

The kit is molded without “see through” flight bays. Instead, Moebius molded in the flight bays with internal vertical walls. To correct this issue, or to allow builders to have “see through” flight bays, there is an aftermarket photoetched brass set (PGX-168) that is available from ParaGrafix that replaces the internal kit parts and provides a full flight bay.

An additional photoetched brass set (PGX-170) provides the missing details for the head, ‘tween deck areas between the upper and lower flight bay pods, and the sides of the flight bay pod arms. There are also raised lettering registry markings for additional battlestars: Atlantia, Athena, Triton, Mercury, Valkyrie, Solaria, Columbia, Erasmus, and Uned.

Both photoetch sets are available through the Starship Modeler store.

Moebius has provided “Landing Bay Perspective” decals that are placed inside each of the eight openings into the bays. Additional decals are provided for the landing bay entries (the actual landing ramps), the ship’s name and BSG number, and the Colonial Fleet emblem that goes on top of the ship.

For those who want additional names in decal form, a decal sheet (PGX-171) is available and includes: Atlantia, Athena, Triton, Mercury, Valkyrie, Solaria, Columbia, Erasmus, and Uned.

The completed model measures over 16 inches long and is about 6.5 inches wide.
