This kit was originally released by Imai as the Destroid Tomahawk in the 1982. Bandai acquired the molds, and the review sample kit was issued in 1992 as part of the 25th Anniversary of the Macross series. The design was also adapted to the Battletech universe, where it appears as the Warhammer.

The kit is molded in brown styrene, and the parts are crisply cast and free from flash.

A sheet of waterslide decals is also included, and has 18 different markings. The instruction sheet is a two-sided poster, one side with color photos of the completed model, and the reverse side having black and white drawings showing the seven assembly steps.

The kit has been discontinued for a number of years, but appears frequently on auction sites such as eBay.
