Okay, I’ll admit that I’m using a kit name that is different than what is shown on the box. The box top says “Galactic Recon/Utility Craft”, but those of us who are fans of the re-imagined Battlestar Galactic television series know it for what it really is – a Colonial Raptor.

This model is a companion kit to the Black Sun 1:72 Viper Mk. II and the Viper Mk. VII, and it’s a beauty. The parts are cast in light gray resin and the detailing is fantastic. Clear resin parts are included for the aft cockpit panels, in case lighting is desired. My kit included two vacuform canopies and a resin plug, in case the builder doesn’t want to include the interior.

A sheet of waterslide decals provides internal console markings for both the pilot/co-pilot area and the aft tech area, so if you want a fully-detailed interior, you can build the Raptor that way. The rear hatch can also be left open to show off the details. Stencils for exterior details are also included. The six-page instruction sheet includes location call-outs and painting recommendations.

Overall length looks to be just over 4 inches, and the wingspan is about 3.5 inches.

I was thrilled to get my hands on one of these kits, and if you’re a Battlestar fan, I strongly urge you to grab one of these kits when (and if) you happen to see one. You will not be disappointed!
