The B11 Battleship is Sci-Fi Skunkwerks’ interpretation of the old L-24 class ship that appeared years ago in the FASA Ship Recognition Manual. The design was re-worked to make it a little more appealing (and more realistic, given FASA’s problems with scale relationships).

The kit was cleanly cast in white resin, and was cast as a single piece, which is absolutely incredible when you consider all of the surface detail and the various angles on this kit. There weren’t any bubbles or voids, and only minimal cleanup of seam lines and some flash was needed. The only issue with the cast was that the neck section was angled downward about 5 degrees, but a little hot water took care of this issue quickly.

No decals were included in the kit, but aside from some Klingon tri-foils, nothing is really needed.

The kit was primed with sandable acrylic automobile primer, airbrushed with Tamiya flat Black Green, and detailed with Model Master Flat Olive and Rust. After application of a coat of Future, a light wash of black acrylic paint was done. The kit was flat-coated with Testor’s DullCote, and dry-brushed with Model Master Chrome Silver.

This is a great addition to a 1:2500 scale fleet, and with all of the various houses in the Klingon Empire, there is ample opportunity to build a number of ships, each with a different paint scheme. The model in this review was done in a TMP-era paint scheme, and received a Merit Award at WonderFest 2009.

The completed kit is 5 inches long, 3.25 inches wide, and 1.25 inches tall.

UPDATE - As of December 2010, Sci Fi Skunkwerks is no longer producing model kits. At that time, the owner of the company stated that he was engaged in selling his remaining stock, and would not be involved in the model kit industry.
