Manufacturer:Sci-Fi Spaceship Miniatures

Parts: 44
Status: Discontinued
Release Date: 1988
Skill Level: Intermediate
This is the vacuform version of the Klingon Bird of Prey that was released in the 1980’s. The kit is a bit more complex than the AMT/Ertl styrene kit because of the vacuform media, but it does have some additional features, the most unique of which is that it includes the parts to make landing gears for the kit.

The kit has a total of 44 parts on two sheets, plus an envelope with aluminum rods for the wingtip guns and the landing gears.

Also included are four sheets of styrene that must be cut to form the wing baffles. There is an 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper with the outlines of the baffles that must be cut (and two of each are needed, so you will be cutting out 48 baffles). The kit offers the choice of posing the baffles in one of three positions: landing, cruising, or attack. It is possible to construct the kit so that the wings can be moved between the various positions.

Overall the parts are well-molded, but there is room for builders to include extra detailing if desired. With the kit being entirely hollow, it is also possible to install lighting, but LEDs must be used to keep the heat of the bulbs from melting the kit.

No decals are included with the kit, but sets are available from a number of aftermarket sources.
