The YF-19 is from a four-episode anime series set after the events of the original Macross series and is in the official timeline as the first sequel. It is set approximately three decades after the end of the hostilities between humans and the Zentradi.

According to the design’s entry on Wikipedia, “In the year 2040, a contest was held for the design of the Advanced Variable Fighter. Two companies, Shinsei Industries and General Galaxy, joined the competitions. Shinsei's entry was the YF-19 Alpha One (the different code indicating a prototype). The YF-19 won the Project Super Nova design contest.”

The YF-19 Demonstrator is the two-seat training version of the aircraft, and has a dual cockpit, even though only one pilot figure is included in the kit, which is rather disappointing.

The kit’s injection molded plastic parts are molded white styrene, and the detailing is beautiful. Clear parts are also included. A full sheet of waterslide decals is included, and features all of the pinstriping and markings needed to complete the model. There are 108 numbered decals on the sheet, and one cool thing is that the pinstripes are in gold chrome, which will have a neat effect on the finished kit. The primary color scheme is sky blue and white, with the gold chrome stripes dividing the colors.

The completed kit looks to be about 10 inches long with a wingspan of 10 inches. This is a rough guesstimate obtained by measuring the parts on their runners, and not by fitting them together.
