In 1977, the movie “Damnation Alley” was released. Set in a post-nuclear war world, the movie featured a group of Americans trying to survive. Following the destruction of the Air Force base where they had been stationed, the group, under the command of Major Eugene Denton (played by George Peppard), sets off across the ravaged landscape in two armored vehicles known as Landmasters. Along the way they lose one Landmaster and two crew members, but pick up two civilians who complete the journey with them. They meet up with giant cockroaches, storms, and crazed survivalists.

The Landmaster kit released by Cozmo Heavy Industries is cast in white resin and is a decent representation of the vehicle. To be honest, I don’t recall ever having seen another kit of the Landmaster, and I was happy to get my hands on this one.

There are 20 parts in this kit: main body, four sets of “tri-wheels”, four inner hubs for the “tri-wheels”, one upper weapons platform, one top hatch, one top weapons mount, two side blisters, two side weapons mounts, and four wheel guards. The parts themselves are well-cast, but there is a ton of flash that will have to be removed. Aside from the main body, all of the other parts are cast on a sheet with flash connecting the pieces. Some cleanup will also be needed on the main body, as there is a central seam running at the midpoint between the upper and lower halves of the body.

A small sheet of waterslide decals is provided, and includes: six (6) Landmaster graphics, two rocket launcher barrels for the upper weapons platform, two (2) side windows, one side door (left side of the vehicle), lower bow hatch with headlights, and the rear hatch (primary entry point for the vehicle).

No marking guide is included, but a detail photo was available years ago on the Cozmo website. The photo is shown below, and will be helpful to builders when trying to place the decals.

This is a basic kit, and it would benefit from some added detailing. I’m considering drilling through the body and mounting the tri-wheel sets on brass axles, allowing the wheel units to turn inside the wheel guards. Also, the side weapons mounts don’t include gun barrels, which could be added with some thin brass rod. The bow guns are also missing from the front of the vehicle.

All in all this is a neat kit, and one that’s been missing from the sci-fi universe for years.

The completed kit looks to be about 4 inches long and about 1.25 inches wide.
