When I spotted this kit sitting on the Multi-Verse Models table at WonderFest 2014, I had to grab it. Something about it just intrigued me, even though I normally don’t build kits in 1:1400 scale. I mean, I have the AMT Ambassador Class, Galaxy Class, and Sovereign Class kits, but that’s about it. I haven’t purchased any of the resin kits in that scale, as I prefer to build in 1:2500.

Anyway, there’s something about this kit that grabbed my eye. I’m not sure if the teardrop shape reminded me of the Stargazer, or that it kinda looks like an upside-down Loknar/Phobos with the warp nacelles slung below, or . . . . you get the idea.

This fan-designed model was originally produced by Ravenstar Models, but the kit line was purchased by Multi-Verse Models and is now under the MVM masthead. The kit is cleanly molded in light gray resin that is free from any bubbles or voids. The review sample has a little bit of a wave to the outer section of the saucer, but that can be corrected with a quick dip in hot water.

The kit has a total of four parts: main hull, two warp nacelles, and the upper weapons pod. The model can be built with or without the pod, as detail pieces are in place on the section where the pod connects to the aft section of the hull. A domed resin piece and a length of clear acrylic rod are included for use as a stand.

A full sheet of waterslide decals is included, and provides all the markings the builder will need (windows, phasers, banners, pennants, registry numbers, vents, impulse engines, etc). The builder also has a choice of three names: USS Fearless (NCC-7187), USS Brazen (NCC-7139) and USS Charger (NCC-7053).

The completed model is 6.5 inches long and 3 inches wide.

I might have to pick up another one of these, as I’ve test-fitted the parts and would kind of like to do a variant with the weapons pod slung under the hull rather than above it. It’ll take a bit of modification so the outbound photon torpedoes won’t blow off the planetary sensor array mounted to the bottom of the saucer, but it might be a fun variant.
