The Titan IIIC was developed in the 1960’s as a ballistic missile to replace the aging Atlas rockets. However, the Titan soon found double duty as a launch vehicle. The Titan II served as the booster for the Gemini spacecraft. The Titan IIIC has two side-mounted solid rocket boosters and was intended purely as a heavy launch vehicle. The Titan IIIC was flown from 1965 to 1982, but further development has run through the Titan IIIE model.

The 2013 reissued model kit from Round 2 features a see-through nose cone that reveals the satellite payload. The rocket comes with twin booster rockets. One neat feature is that it is a 3-stage rocket that can be displayed in stages or in a full stack.

The kit’s parts are molded in somewhat thick white styrene with raised rivet detailing. A sprue with chrome parts is provided for the satellite, booster rocket side mounts and other parts. Two clear parts are included for the nose cone and for use as a stand for around the rockets at the base of the center tank.

A full sheet of waterslide decals is included with all needed markings. A small 12-page history brochure is included, which provides information about the rocket’s usage and a cutaway drawing showing the layout of the internal parts.

The completed model stands about 13 inches high.
